KKR Crush GT by 29 Runs in IPL 2026 Thriller as Sunil Narine Shines Again

Kolkata Knight Riders delivered one of their most complete performances of the IPL 2026 season with a commanding 29-run victory over Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens. The win could prove to be a turning point in KKR’s playoff race, while GT suffered a major setback in their push to finish at the top of the points table.

KKR posted a mammoth 247/2 in 20 overs after a batting masterclass led by Finn Allen, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Cameron Green. In reply, GT fought hard through Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler, but eventually finished at 218/4, falling short by 29 runs.

The biggest talking point of the night, however, was veteran all-rounder Sunil Narine, who was named Player of the Match for yet another match-winning performance. Narine delivered when KKR needed control the most, finishing with two crucial wickets while maintaining pressure in the middle overs. His dismissal of key batters shifted momentum decisively in Kolkata’s favour. The award also came on a historic occasion, with Narine recently becoming the first overseas player to complete 200 IPL matches for KKR.

KKR’s batting innings was pure destruction. Finn Allen played one of the best knocks of IPL 2026, smashing 93 off just 35 balls with 10 sixes at an unbelievable strike rate above 265.

Youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi continued his breakout season with a classy unbeaten 82 off 44 deliveries, while Cameron Green added a brutal 52 not out from only 28 balls. The trio ensured KKR never slowed down after the powerplay. GT bowlers, including Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore, struggled to contain the relentless assault.

Despite the massive target, GT showed why they remain one of the strongest batting units in the tournament. Captain Shubman Gill anchored the chase brilliantly before his dismissal at 177/2 gave KKR an opening. Jos Buttler also threatened briefly, but Narine and the KKR bowlers tightened the screws in the death overs.

This victory has massive implications for the IPL 2026 points table. KKR entered the contest needing a statement win to stay alive in the playoff race, and they achieved exactly that. Their net run rate receives a huge boost after defending 247 successfully, something that could become decisive in the final league standings. More importantly, KKR now carry momentum into the business end of the season after struggling for consistency earlier in the campaign.

For GT, the defeat hurts in multiple ways. Not only did they miss the opportunity to strengthen their hold near the top of the table, but conceding 247 also damaged their previously strong net run rate. The Titans still remain among the favourites for playoff qualification, but this loss exposed concerns in their bowling unit, especially under pressure against explosive batting sides.

KKR fans will now believe their season is far from over. With Narine leading from the front, Finn Allen finding devastating form, and Raghuvanshi emerging as a dependable young star, Kolkata suddenly look like one of the most dangerous teams heading into the final stretch of IPL 2026.
